The Coptic Orthodox Church
The word Copt is derived from the Greek word Aigyptos, which was, in turn, derived from "Hikaptah", one of the names for Memphis, the first capital of Ancient Egypt. The modern use of the term "Coptic" describes Egyptian Christians. The birth, life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ marked the beginning of Christianity. Before His resurrection, Christ sent forth the apostles to “Go and preach the gospel to all the world” (Mark 16:15). Shortly after, St. Mark the Apostle helped spread Christianity by establishing the Coptic Church in Egypt. Now, amidst much persecution and struggle, the Coptic Orthodox Church still retains the traditions and teachings of the Holy Fathers and the original Church.

St. George Coptic Orthodox Church
St. George Coptic Orthodox Church was established in 1969, as the fourth Coptic Church in America, with only about 30-50 families at the time. The first church building was bought in Conshohocken in 1980. By the grace of God, the congregation bought what is
the current building in Norristown, Pennsylvania in 1994. Today, the Church continues to serve many families throughout the Greater Philadelphia or the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.
In addition to the Norristown building, the church also owns a Center located in South Philadelphia aimed at better serving the congregation in the downtown area. Weekly meetings are held at the center, along with bi-weekly Saturday services. For a full schedule of services at both buildings, please refer to the schedule tab above.
By the grace of God, the church has recently purchased a new property located in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The plan for this property is pictured below. Please keep this service in your prayers.
